Drs. MacGregor and Malczyk enjoy being your doctor and they do their best work when they take time for their own learning, rest and recreation. Further, both physicians are not in the office full time as they maintain appointments with the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services.

Despite their full schedules, the doctors are always reachable to triage your concerns, providing coverage 365 days a year for their patients. They also save "same-day appointments," not listed on their online schedule, for those urgent issues that can't wait (obtained by emailing or phoning your provider). However, this does not always mean your schedule lines up with theirs and sometimes, it may be more appropriate for a patient to be seen elsewhere such as the emergency room. Drs. MacGregor and Malczyk also cross cover each others practices when away. Patients are welcomed to utilise this coverage after first contacting their primary physician who will then make arrangements. Willow Family Medicine also always does its best to secure locum coverage in the event of a doctor being away, however, this is not always possible given the shortage of family physicians in Alberta.

Here are a few other suggestions on how to obtain medical care outside Willow Family Medicine, if necessary;

  • Leduc After-Hours Clinic. A short 20 minute drive from south Edmonton. This walk-in clinic provides your doctor a visit summary, helpful in maintaining continuity of care. Online booking and evenings appointments available.

  • Urgent Care Clinics. Located in Sherwood Park, east and north east Edmonton. A small scale emergency room with no inpatient capacity. Great for issues that are not life threatening but require more than a doctor's office (e.g broken limbs, severe burns).

  • Urgent Mental Health. The Royal Alexandra Hospital now offers 24/7 mental health access both for crisis and non crisis situations. Here patients can obtain urgent psychiatric and social work services. Alternatively, calling 211 can help provide direction to patients for semi urgent needs.

  • Stollery Children's Hospital. For urgent or emergent pediatric issues.

  • Ellwood Pediatric Walk-In Clinic. For non-urgent, walk-in paediatric matters.

  • Alberta Health Link. A phone service staffed by registered nurses to help triage your concerns.

  • Pregnancy Related Issues. If less than 20 weeks, please visit any emergency department and/or contact your doctor. If greater than 20 weeks, please contact your doctor and/or proceed to labour and delivery. The only hospitals with labour and delivery are Grey Nuns, Misericordia, Royal Alexandra, Fort Saskatchewan and Sturgeon County Hospital.
