Jessica Hesthammer
MD CCFP
Dr. Hesthammer was born in Regina, SK, and raised anywhere there was an air force base. After a stint overseas in Saudi Arabia, she and her family moved to Edmonton. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Business at MacEwan University, where she was awarded the highest GPA in her graduating class. She was able to pursue her scientific interests through medical school at the University of Alberta and also completed a residency in Family Medicine at the same institution.
Dr. Hesthammer's interest in infant feeding began with an elective that she completed at Willow Infant Feeding and Lactation Clinic while she was pregnant with her son. The advice, guidance, and kindness provided by the physicians at the clinic were instrumental in setting her up for success with breastfeeding as a first-time mother.
After returning to Willow following maternity leave, she quickly realized the importance of providing gentle guidance to parents during those early days. The passion provided by her patients inspires her, and she believes it is a great privilege to serve her community through this avenue. She is currently pursuing her IBCLC designation under the mentorship of Dr. MacGregor.
When Dr. Hesthammer is not at Willow, she may be pursuing her other medical passion of palliative care. She also enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and son, as well as playing beach volleyball.
